I Believe The Internet Has Now Been Going For 40 Years. Happy Birthday!

Well, it is now 4 decades since the internet was initially in use. Who could have believed, in those early days, how great it would become in such a fairly short period?

I remember, as a little child, contemplating how lucky were inventors like Alexander Graham Bell, being able to invent the telephone. Others had invented radio, tv, cinecamera. What was there left for such as my generation to invent? It is fortunate others had more vision than I did. We now benefit from CDs, DVDs, mobile telephones and many other brilliant items which I could not have thought of as a child.

On the 40th anniversary of the internet, it is interesting to see the differences we have seen in the way computers are used over this period. In the early years, there was no www, so the internet was not the same as we think of in 2009 when we say we use it.

Not all businesses had use of PCs four decades ago, let alone people having multiple PCs in their homes. Even as recently as the 1990’s the business where I was employed had only one PC which would connect to the internet and every member of staff had to use this in order to connect with the internet.

In those days, the idea of using a search engine was an alien concept. Now Search Engine Placement is understood, by both businesses and individuals, to be an important part of internet experience. Seo companies have evolved, in order to help businesses improve their search engine positioning.

Due to the fact that laptops are now reasonably inexpensive, some houses will have more than one. They are compact, do not require dedicated work areas,messy. I am really pleased that other folk can come up with inventions to improve my daily life, and this all makes me wonder what we will be seeing four decades from now – things right now in their infancy or not yet even thought of.
